The Kenitra-Tangier corridor has become Europe's nearest mass-production hub. Production capacity has crossed 700,000 vehicles per year and is on track to reach 1 million by the end of 2026, making Morocco the largest automotive producer on the African continent and a top-15 producer globally.

The EV pivot is the defining story of 2025-2026. Tesla established a Moroccan subsidiary in June 2025 and announced a $2.8 million initial investment for a Kenitra assembly plant targeting 400,000 units per year. Gotion High-Tech is building two gigafactories with a combined investment of $5.6 billion, producing 20 GWh of LFP batteries annually by late 2026, scaling to 100 GWh. COBCO's lithium-ion battery component plant at Jorf Lasfar is already operational. LG Chem and Huayou Group are constructing an LFP cathode material plant with 50,000 metric tons annual capacity, targeting the US market under the Inflation Reduction Act via Morocco's US FTA.

Morocco's phosphate reserves, managed by OCP Group, provide a structural advantage in LFP battery chemistry. OCP has committed to producing 30,000 tons of LFP intermediate products by 2027. This creates an integrated upstream-to-downstream value chain: phosphate mining, battery precursor manufacturing, cell production, and vehicle assembly, all within a 300km corridor connected by free-zone logistics.

The EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) accelerates this thesis. Morocco's grid is already 40%+ renewable and targets 52% by 2030 and 80% by 2050. Vehicles and components manufactured in Morocco carry a lower embedded carbon footprint than those from coal-heavy competitors, giving European OEMs a measurable CBAM cost advantage when sourcing from Morocco.

For investors, the entry points are clear: Tier-2/Tier-3 component manufacturing (stamping, plastics, wiring harnesses), EV charging infrastructure, battery recycling, and automotive software/electronics.
